InduCon21 is a technical service provider, part of the 21 Group. 21 Group is based on the powerful combination currently formed by Elektra 21, InduCon 21 and Telecom 21 participating in TechnoTron, wQare, NewView and in close collaboration with mechanical installation companies. InduCon 21 is specialised in designing, installing and managing electro technical installations, mechanical installations and measurement and control technological installations. In concrete terms, their job is to ensure that these installations are functioning properly and safely and are able to be controlled properly. Safety is a key consideration with InduCon 21, as both repair and maintenance work on these types of installations is inherently dangerous.
InduCon 21 was founded in 2008 by Roger van Beveren. At the start Hilco Snepvanger was the only employee of the company, but he soon had to start recruiting workers in his field. They were needed to break into the market. But he took a cautious approach. He recruited his own mechanics, but also wanted to be able to hire temporary staff, using reliable partners. Luckily, Hilco was aware of such a partner from one of his previous roles: InAxtion.
Over the years, InAxtion has become the preferred supplier to InduCon 21 of electricians who are skilled and experienced in heavy industry. If InduCon 21 needs people - and sometimes they need them very quickly when a customer awards a project at the last minute - InAxtion is able to find the right people who can start straight away. Quite often InduCon 21 will ask for workers by name, as over the years they have started to regard them as colleagues.
"We will often ask for specific technicians by name, as we have come to regard them as colleagues"
Hilco Snepvanger, manager at InduCon 21.
Not every electrician is the same. Hilco Snepvanger, manager at InduCon 21 explains: "Electricians who are used to working in the utility sector lack the essential experience and knowledge for work in industry." You can tell as soon as they arrive, by their mind-set, their equipment and their tools. "So I need a partner who understands the difference and will send the right technicians straight away." That's why Hilco uses InAxtion when he needs extra people.
"I've tried other agencies", Hilco acknowledges. When he started at InduCon 21 in 2008, he wanted to shop around. "I was using InAxtion anyway, because I knew the company, but I didn't think it was smart to invest all my trust in one supplier. And they can't guarantee that they are able to supply all staff every single time, as their own clients, like ours, are unpredictable. Although he found other similar agencies, a number of them were not suitable: "They turned out not to understand that an utility electrician is different to an industrial electrician." So how can you tell the difference? "In the way someone arrives at work. An electrician who is familiar with industrial work, for instance, is aware of the extreme importance of safety. He will turn up with his own PPE and does not just sign on the dotted line of the safety regulations, but actually keeps to them 100%.
If it becomes apparent that a mechanic has broken one of the regulations, he and the agency that sent him are finished as far as we’re concerned. "The true industrial technician can also be recognised by the tools they bring along: these too are different in utility from industry."
InAxtion has hardly ever failed to supply InduCon 21 with the right person for the right job: "They always supply industrial electricians to an industrial job and utility electricians to a utility job. But we are also able to ask for specific qualifications or skills." For instance, when InduCon 21 needs people for a job with a particular certificate for jointing a particular type of cable. "InAxtion is prepared to train people specifically for the job. Once the people have the certificate and another job like it comes up, they will make sure they're available for us if possible.
InduCon 21 regularly asks for mechanics by name: "For instance, InAxtion has someone they've been employing for 5 years whenever thick cables need to be jointed. He will move around within InduCon 21 to projects involving thick cables. He has developed himself within that field and delivers extremely high quality. We have started to see him as a colleague, rather than an InAxtion 'temp'.
In case of large projects, too, InAxtion is able to supply 15 to 20 people very quickly. One of our customers took far too long to award a project to build a tower diffuser. It was impossible, really, considering the number of man hours needed and the short time-scale. But we took on the project and relied on InAxtion to supply the technicians. And they did: high-quality and hard-working people who helped deliver the project on time.
In the past 6 years InAxtion has become the preferred supplier of reliable, well-trained and experienced personnel to InduCon 21 projects. "That shows how satisfied we are with their service. InAxtion understands our sector and knows what we are looking for and what we expect. They're as reliable as they are flexible. When they say an electrician will be there, then you know that they will be there. In addition, they look after their people: just like us, they know the vital importance of working safely. The people they supply like to work, but they also like to go home in one piece. And you can only do that if you know what you're doing, are aware of the risks and dangers, are familiar with the rules and keep to them. I don't remember there ever being an industrial accident involving a worker from InAxtion. That says a lot about the quality of their personnel."
